Puppy & Kitten Care

Puppy and kitten

Congratulations on your new addition to the family! The first few weeks with a new pet are special. We recommend your new puppy or kitten receive their first wellness care exam as soon as possible after you bring them home. Puppies and kittens have special health care needs during their early development stage to put them on the path to lifelong wellness.

Puppy and Kitten Wellness Exam

Your new puppy or kitten visit will include a comprehensive wellness exam. We will look for any signs of illness and ensure that your new pet is in good health. Your pet’s vaccination protocol will begin, and requires a series of boosters over the first few months to protect your pet from life-threatening disease.

Parasite Testing

Fecal exams are performed during your visit and your puppy or kitten will be dewormed as needed. It is important to begin heartworm, flea, tick, and internal parasite control between six to eight weeks of age. We will review your parasite prevention options, and give you a free dose at the first visit.

Medical History

Please bring any available medical records with you to the initial exam, as well as a recent stool sample. New puppies and kittens can have worms, fleas, and mites, particularly if they came from a shelter environment. Some internal and external pet parasites can also be passed along to their owners. To ensure the health and safety of your entire family, it is vital to address parasite infestations immediately.

Free Initial Exam for Adopted Shelter Pets

Thank you for adopting a shelter pet, and providing a forever home for a puppy or kitten in need. To support you, we offer free initial exams for adopted shelter pets. For the health and safety of your entire family, it is so important to examine your new shelter pet’s health within seven days of adoption. Together, we will embark on a road of life-long good health for your new addition.
